About Flass Wood
It's a walker's wood more than anything else. The paths wind through, nothing too punishing, and you'll spot the odd remnant of old forestry work - fallen logs left to rot, clearings where conifers have been thinned. The canopy closes in around you properly, so it's got that calming, almost cathedral-like quality that makes you understand why people spend money on forest bathing weekends.
Families with younger kids might find an hour enough before restlessness sets in - there's not a visitor centre or ranger station as far as I can tell, so it's just you, the trees, and whatever wildlife's awake. Older children who actually like walking will get more from it. Dog walkers love it.
If you're based at Whinfell Hall Farm Campsite just down the road, this is a decent morning or evening venture without needing to trek far. The light's nicest either early on or as the sun drops low - that's when the woodland actually shows itself. Rain won't stop you, but the paths get boggy, so decent boots matter. Bring a torch if you're going near dusk; it gets dark in there fast.
