Flat Cliff

The name's a bit of a misnomer, really. Flat Cliff isn't exactly dramatic - it's a modest outcrop near Grantham that gives you a decent view across the Lincolnshire countryside without requiring proper fell-walking gear. Worth a detour if you're staying at Wagtail Country Park, which sits just over a mile away, but don't expect the Lake District.

It's straightforward stuff: a short walk, some low cliffs that wouldn't impress anyone from the Cotswolds, and views that stretch across pretty flat terrain. You'll get a sense of why this part of England feels different - no mountains, no drama, just endless fields. Families with young kids will manage it without complaints, and it's the sort of place where older walkers appreciate the accessibility rather than the altitude.

Allow half an hour unless you're really taking your time with photographs. The walk is gentle and the path clear, so there's nothing technical about it. Best visited on a clearer day when you can actually see something from the top - low cloud turns the whole thing into a rather pointless trudge.
