Flint Hill

The view from Flint Hill, just outside Louth, will surprise you if you're expecting anything dramatic. This isn't a mountain. It's a modest rise in the Lincolnshire Wolds that gives you proper panoramic views across the countryside - the kind of place that matters more for the walking than the destination itself.

You get to see rolling agricultural land stretching into the distance, with neat hedgerows and scattered villages dotting the landscape. On a clear day, the visibility is decent enough to make the effort worthwhile. It's the sort of spot where walkers genuinely enjoy themselves, and families with older kids won't find it a slog.

The real appeal is the walk up through the Wolds. There are several approaches depending on how much time you want to spend, and the terrain is gentle enough that you won't need specialist kit. Allow between one and two hours including a proper look around at the top. Go mid-week if you can - weekends pull in groups from Louth and beyond.

If you're staying at Three Horseshoes or Oxcombe campsites nearby, this is an obvious morning outing. The Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape has other walks in the area, so you could easily combine Flint Hill with exploring the broader landscape. It won't take your breath away, but it's solid countryside walking with a proper sense of accomplishment at the top.
