The walk up Foodie Hill from St Andrews is a proper leg-stretcher - nothing dramatic in height, but the climb is steady enough that you'll feel it in your thighs by the top. The reward is a view across the Fife countryside that justifies the effort, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the coast toward the Tay estuary. It's the sort of place locals know and visitors often miss, which means you won't be fighting crowds for a decent spot to stand and catch your breath. Allow a good hour for the round trip if you're not rushing, maybe longer if you're stopping to admire the landscape properly. The path itself is straightforward - no scrambling or technical bits - so families with older kids will manage fine, though younger ones might need encouragement on the way up. If you're staying at Craigtoun Meadows or Clayton Caravan Park, it's close enough for a half-day outing. Summer mornings are your best bet for visibility, though the hill's low enough that even on average Scottish weather you'll get something decent. It's not a destination in itself - don't expect a café or visitor facility at the top - but as part of a Fife break that includes St Andrews itself, it's worth the detour. Pair it with a ramble round Craigtoun Country Park if you're after more structured walking, or simply use it as an excuse to get above the town for an hour and see where you actually are.
