Fowemer Hill

Standing barely 200 feet above sea level, Fowemer Hill won't trouble serious peak-baggers, but this gentle rise south of Nottingham offers something more valuable than elevation - proper countryside views within striking distance of the city. The summit gives you a decent panorama across the Nottinghamshire landscape, with the Trent Valley spreading out below.

Families with younger children will find this an easy win. The walk up takes about 20 minutes from most approach points, and there's nothing too challenging about the terrain. Dog walkers seem to have claimed it as their own - you'll rarely have the top to yourself on weekend mornings.

What makes Fowemer Hill particularly useful is its location for anyone staying at the nearby holiday parks. Little Bunny Retreat sits just over a mile away, while several other sites including Midshires Way Campsite and Birdholme Glamping are all within easy driving distance. It's the sort of place you'd pop up to for sunrise if you're the keen type, or just to stretch your legs after a day lounging around camp.

Expect to spend about an hour here unless you're planning a longer ramble through the surrounding farmland. Free parking can be tricky to find, so factor in a short road walk from wherever you manage to leave the car.
