Fullers Mill Garden

You'll find yourself wandering through six acres of proper English garden on the outskirts of Bury, following the river as it winds through carefully planted beds and woodland walks. Fullers Mill Garden isn't one of those showy stately home affairs - it's intimate, thoughtfully designed, and genuinely lovely. The mill itself is the focal point, but the real magic is in how the garden uses the water, the trees, and the planting to create different moods as you move through it.

It's run by Perennial, the gardeners' charity, and they clearly know what they're doing. You'll see everything from alpine plants to herbaceous borders, with enough shade and seating that you can actually linger rather than just power through. Families with younger kids might find it a bit quiet compared to theme parks, but anyone who actually enjoys looking at plants - and walking at a gentle pace - will get a good couple of hours out of it.

If you're staying at Kings Forest Caravan & Camping Park, it's barely half a mile away, making this an easy morning before heading elsewhere. West Stow Pods is even closer. Admission details aren't always straightforward on the Perennial website, so ring ahead, but it's worth the effort. The best time is late spring when everything's properly in bloom - you'll see why the care they take actually matters. It's not flashy, but it's done right.
