Garboldisham Belt

A belt of woodland east of Diss that's proper easy to walk through without feeling like you're trudging through someone's back garden. Garboldisham Belt is exactly what it sounds - a strip of mature trees and undergrowth that cuts through Norfolk farmland, the sort of place locals know well but visitors often miss.

There's no visitor centre, no facilities, and frankly no faffing about. You park up nearby and walk. The paths are decent enough if you're not expecting them to be manicured, and you'll spot native woodland birds and squirrels if you're quiet about it. In spring the bluebells come properly thick, which is worth timing a trip around. Summer's hot and a bit sweaty in there; autumn's when it really sings with colour.

Walkers will get the most from this - it's not a destination in itself, more of a cracking addition to a day loop around Diss and the surrounding villages. You could easily spend an hour here, or just do twenty minutes if you're short on time. It works brilliantly if you're staying at Applewood Countryside Holidays nearby - breaks up the driving and gets the legs working after a morning on site.

Norfolk's not short of woodland, but this one's worth knowing about if you're passing through. Honest, unfussy, and genuinely pleasant.
