Garry Bog Nature Reserve

The boardwalk at Garry Bog cuts straight through open moorland that feels properly wild, even though you're only a few miles from Bushmills. It's not the sort of place where you'll find crowds or gift shops - just peat, water, and the kind of quiet that makes you actually notice birdsong.

You're walking through an active bog system here, which means the ground itself is the main attraction. The boardwalk keeps you dry and protects the delicate habitat, so you can get right up close to the sphagnum mosses and sundews without causing damage. It's educational without being preachy about it. The views across the moorland are genuinely lovely, especially on a clear day when you can see proper distance.

This works well for families with kids old enough to manage a gentle walk - under-fives might find it a bit samey after twenty minutes. Keen walkers and anyone interested in wetland ecology will get far more from it. Allow an hour if you're taking photos or moving slowly; you could do it in half that if you're just passing through.

It slots perfectly into a wider Causeway Coast trip. The glamping pods at Thornfield Farm near the Dark Hedges are five minutes away, and Causeway Country Pods even closer. You could combine this with the Giant's Causeway or a wander through Bushmills itself without any bother. The bog is free to access and worth the detour if you're staying locally, though not worth shifting your whole itinerary for.
