The ruins of Glenbarr Abbey sit quietly on the Kintyre peninsula, a few miles south of Tarbert, surrounded by fields that slope down towards the sea. This works best if you're already committed to exploring Kintyre rather than treating it as a standalone pilgrimage. History enthusiasts will get more from it than families with restless kids, though if your lot enjoys exploring ruins without climbing steep towers, there's enough here to occupy half an hour.
