Gosport Splash Park

The seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent has a proper splash park that's brilliant for cooling off on those sticky summer days when the beach feels too crowded. It's not huge - you won't spend all afternoon here - but for young kids who want to run through water jets and splash pools without the faff of getting their swimmers on, it does the job well enough.

The setup is fairly straightforward: water features, sprays, and interactive elements designed to keep under-tens entertained for an hour or so. Bring a towel and accept that they'll come home soaked. Parents can sit nearby and actually watch their kids without losing sight of them, which matters more than the parks' websites would have you believe.

Timing matters. Go early on weekdays in school term and you'll have space to move. Summer holidays? Rammed. The spot works well as a quick stop if you're based at Kingfisher Caravan Park just down the road, or if you're doing a wider Isle of Wight tour staying at somewhere like Waverley Park or Nodes Point. It's the sort of thing that breaks up a beach day nicely rather than being a destination in itself.

Free entry, as far as we can tell - it's a public facility - though facilities information is thin on the ground. Bring your own snacks and a change of clothes. On a grey day when the wind's up off the Solent, you might skip it altogether. On a scorcher, the kids will think you're a genius for knowing it exists.
