Great Pine Brake sprawls across enough acreage to give you a genuine sense of getting lost, which sounds like a negative until you're actually in it and realise that's rather the point.

Walking through feels substantial - not a quick twenty-minute loop but something you can sink real time into. The forest floor is soft with needles, and in winter when the canopy thins you get actual views rather than just green walls. Bring decent boots because it can be boggy in places, particularly after rain.

This works best for people who actually like woodland walks without expecting much infrastructure. You won't find a cafe or a visitor centre. There's no marked trail map to my knowledge, so either navigate by map or be comfortable with a bit of wandering. Kids will either love the freedom of it or get bored within the hour depending on temperament - it's not a playground situation.

If you're staying at Cotswold Edge Caravan & Camping just south near Ducklington, this is a decent half-day option that won't cost you entry fees. Time it for autumn when the light filters through differently, or spring when you're less likely to wade through mud.
