You'll spot Grindstone Law's distinctive rocky crown from miles around Otterburn - it's the sort of hill that makes you want to walk it immediately. The scramble to the summit takes about an hour from the car park, and it's proper satisfying; steep enough to earn the views but not so technical that you need ropes. The stone outcrops at the top are genuinely dramatic, all weathered red sandstone that glows in late afternoon light.

This is walking territory, full stop. Not a stroll, not a family picnic spot - come here if you like moving briskly through moorland with a clear objective. The Northumberland moorlands roll out in every direction once you're up there, brown and purple and empty in the best way.

It's the kind of peak that doesn't demand a full day but rewards the effort properly. The route's straightforward enough - no scrambling required despite what the rocky summit suggests - which means even moderately fit walkers manage it without drama. Go on a clear day if you can; the views stretch toward the Scottish border when visibility's decent. Allow two to three hours return if you're not rushing, and wear proper boots because the moorland gets boggy. Free to walk, obviously. This is Northumberland in microcosm - wild, unpretentious, and absolutely worth the effort if you're staying in the area.
