Hare

Hare is a contemporary art gallery tucked away in Warwickshire, just outside Kenilworth. The space itself is the draw - it's got that kind of raw, unpretentious feel you get in smaller independent galleries where the work takes centre stage rather than the building showing off about itself.

What you'll find inside shifts with the exhibitions, so there's no point me telling you exactly what's on the walls - that's half the fun of visiting. The gallery tends to work with emerging and established artists doing interesting things, which means you're not trudging through the same safe, corporate art installations you've seen a hundred times before. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn't, but at least it feels genuine.

It's the sort of place that works well if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Broadwell Woods is barely a mile away, and Hollyfast or Somers Wood aren't much further. You could easily combine it with a walk around Kenilworth itself, or head towards Warwick Castle if you want something more substantial for the day. The gallery won't eat up more than an hour or two, depending on how long you linger, so it's a decent mid-morning or late afternoon stop rather than an all-day commitment.

Best suited to adults or older teenagers who actually want to engage with art rather than just tick a box. Young kids will get bored within five minutes. Check ahead for opening hours and admission fees before you go - independent galleries can be a bit variable with their schedules.
