Hemmick Beach

The walk down to Hemmick Beach catches you off guard. You're scrambling down a proper steep path - not dangerous, but you'll feel it in your calves on the way back up - and then suddenly you're on this quiet stretch of golden sand with cliffs pressing in on either side. It's the kind of place that feels like a secret, even though plenty of people know about it.

This is a working beach, really. Fishing boats bob about in the shallows, and you'll see locals who've been coming here for years sorting nets or just keeping an eye on things. The sand is good for families - shallow at the edges, firm enough to walk on comfortably. There's a stream running down one side that kids find endlessly entertaining, and the rock pools at low tide are absolutely rammed with life if you know what to look for.

The cliffs frame everything beautifully, especially in late afternoon light. You won't find cafes or facilities here - bring what you need - but that's rather the point. It takes about fifteen minutes from Boswinger village to reach the beach itself, though you'll want to factor in the climb back up.

If you're staying at Treveague Campsite just up the road, this is genuinely worth the walk. It pairs well with exploring the quieter reaches around here rather than fighting for space at the busier north coast spots. Go at low tide if you can manage it - you get far more sand, and the whole place feels even more expansive.
