Holden Park

The moorland around Keighley opens up properly once you venture into Holden Park, where the landscape shifts from suburban sprawl to something genuinely wild. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured garden - rough grassland, exposed rock, and the kind of Yorkshire moorland that feels properly remote even though the town's only just behind you.

Walkers absolutely thrive here. The terrain's uneven enough to feel like a proper hike without requiring technical kit, and the views across the moors stretch far enough to justify the effort. Birdwatchers and botanists will find plenty to occupy themselves, particularly if you're the type who carries field guides. Families with young children might find it a bit exposed and windswept - there's little shelter and no facilities to speak of, so it's not a place to bring a toddler unless you're confident they'll manage a solid walk.

Allow two to three hours if you're taking your time. Best visited in dry conditions when the ground's firmer - after heavy rain it becomes bog-heavy and less pleasant. Summer and autumn are gentler than winter, though the lack of protection means weather can turn quickly.
