Kids will get something out of it if they're the type who enjoy spotting birds or hunting for insects, but expect restlessness if you're after a structured activity.

The reserve works brilliantly as part of a broader holiday in the area. You're minutes from Hedgerow Luxury Glamping and Calder Farm, both rated excellently, so you can base yourself at either and use mornings or afternoons to explore the reserve. Peaks and Pods, a bit further out at nearly six miles, is another solid option if you want to spread your time across the region.

Go early in the day if you can - lighter crowds, better light for photos, and wildlife is more active. The reserve is free to access, which is a genuine plus. Allow two to three hours for a proper wander, though you can dip in for less. Wear decent boots; the ground gets boggy in places, especially after rain.
