Hornsea Sands

Wide stretches of golden sand backed by low cliffs make this a proper East Yorkshire beach day out. The sands here run for miles when the tide's out, giving you plenty of space to spread out even during busy summer weekends. It's the kind of place where kids can run wild building sandcastles while parents actually get to relax.

Families will get the most from Hornsea Sands - the gentle slope into the North Sea makes it safer for little ones than some of the region's more dramatic coastlines. Dog walkers love it too, particularly early morning when you might have whole sections to yourself. The beach can get properly blustery though, so pack layers even in summer.

This stretch of coast sits just east of Driffield, making it easily accessible from several holiday parks in the area. Cliff Top Caravan Park and Sea View Country Park are both within a few miles if you're planning a longer stay. The beach itself is free to use year-round, and you'll want to allow at least half a day to make the journey worthwhile - longer if the weather's playing ball and the kids are happy.
