You get a decent circuit walk around the perimeter, takes about forty minutes at a normal pace. The path's well-maintained and flat enough, so it works for families with younger kids or anyone who fancies a gentle leg-stretch without the fell-walking drama. Birdwatchers find it worthwhile - you'll spot herons if you're patient, and in winter the water attracts visiting wildfowl. There's something quietly absorbing about watching the light change across the lake when you've got time to kill.

It's free to visit and open to the public year-round, though I'd avoid peak summer weekends when Newbury families descend en masse. Early morning or late afternoon feels infinitely more peaceful. If you're camping at Cherry Bird Country Park (just under a mile away) or one of the other sites nearby, this works as a morning walk before breakfast or a wind-down in the evening.
