Jubilee Plantation

The woodland around Jubilee Plantation, just outside York, is a straightforward walk through mixed forest - the sort of place locals know and visitors often miss entirely. There's nothing flashy about it. You get tree-lined paths, some open glades, and if you time it right, the kind of quiet you don't find in the city centre. The plantation itself dates back decades and has matured into proper woodland rather than the regimented rows you sometimes see in younger forests.

This works best for families after a proper walk that won't exhaust anyone. A couple of hours is enough to get through without boredom setting in, though you could easily stretch it longer if you're after a longer ramble. Woodland spotters might pick out various bird species depending on the season. It's the sort of place where kids can actually run about without the path police descending.

The nearest facilities are in York, which gives you good reason to make this part of a bigger day out. If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Bugthorpe Grange is closest at just over a mile - it becomes a natural morning walk before heading elsewhere. Yapham Holds and Wolds Glamping Pods both sit within a few miles, so you can base yourself in one of the quieter, rural parks and still have decent access to woodland walking.
