Kempley Daffodil Meadow

Spring in Herefordshire revolves around one thing if you're near Ledbury - getting to Kempley Daffodil Meadow when the bulbs are out. It's not some manicured garden centre display. This is a proper working meadow where thousands of wild daffodils have naturalised over decades, carpeting the ground in yellow from late March onwards.

You'll find yourself walking through fields that look less like a tourist attraction and more like someone's back garden has exploded with colour. The blooms are densest in April, though the season kicks off earlier each year depending on the weather. The meadow doesn't charge admission - it's simply there, which feels increasingly rare. Allow an hour for a gentle wander; longer if you've got kids who'll want to photograph every bloom.
