About Kisdon
What makes Kisdon worth the effort is the view from the summit. On a clear day, you're looking across the whole of upper Swaledale, with the valley floor laid out like a map below you. The fell itself is open moorland with stone walls running across it - proper Yorkshire landscape, no surprises there, but it works. The descent is gentler than the ascent, which is something to be grateful for on the way back.
Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a casual stroll, and if you've got very young children, you might find the gradient tedious. Allow two to three hours return, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. There's nothing on the summit itself - no cafe, no shelter - so bring a flask if you want a proper break.
If you're staying at Usha Gap Farm or Cherish Glamping, both within easy driving distance, Kisdon makes an excellent half-day excursion. It's the kind of walk that justifies getting up early, and the moorland air beats sitting in a caravan all morning.
