About Kisdon Force
Getting there means a decent walk from the car park - nothing brutal, but you'll earn the view. The footpath follows the river through moorland that's green and empty in a way that makes you forget you're in England. The waterfall itself sits in a tight rocky amphitheatre, and on a clear day the light hits it brilliantly. If it's been raining hard, stay back - the water moves fast and the rocks get slippery.
This is walker territory, not a five-minute drive-by stop. Budget ninety minutes or so from Richmond if you want to do it properly and actually enjoy a cup of tea at the top rather than just hammering through. Families with decent-legged kids will manage fine; toddlers will struggle with the uneven ground.
It works perfectly as part of a wider Swaledale walk or if you're staying at Usha Gap Farm & Campsite just down the road. The whole area around Richmond rewards exploring - you're in proper Dales country here, and Kisdon's one of the better waterfall pulls if you don't fancy trekking all the way to Aysgarth or Hardraw. Free to visit, obviously. Go when the river's got something to say, not on a dry spell.
