Kyre Pool

Standing water reflects the sky between rolling Herefordshire hills, creating one of those spots that feels properly remote despite being just a short drive from Tenbury Wells. Kyre Pool stretches across a natural depression, fringed by woodland that provides decent shelter on blustery days. The lake itself is nothing spectacular - think working countryside water rather than picture-postcard perfection - but it's got that quiet, unvarnished charm that makes for a lovely hour or two.

Families with young children will find it manageable, though there's not much in the way of facilities or structured activities. The real appeal is for anyone wanting to escape the crowds and just sit by water for a bit. Getting there involves some typically narrow Herefordshire lanes, but nothing too challenging if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Hidden Valley Camping or Caspian Wood. The pool makes a decent midday stop rather than a day-long destination. Bring a flask and perhaps some bread for the ducks, though don't expect any grand revelations.
