Lady Katherine's Plantation

Lady Katherine's Plantation is a proper forest walk just outside Kirkcudbright, where you can lose yourself among tall conifers and woodland paths for an hour or two without seeing another soul. The trees are dense enough to feel genuinely remote, even though you're minutes from the town centre - that's the appeal of the Scottish Lowlands in a nutshell.

It's ideal for walkers who want to stretch their legs without committing to a full day's hike. The forest floor is soft underfoot, paths are reasonably well-defined, and you'll spot the occasional deer if you're quiet enough.
