Wandering the cobbled streets feels like stepping into a watercolour. Wall Hill gives you views across the Solway to the Lake District on clear days, which isn't every day.

The town itself runs on art galleries, antique shops, and the sort of tearoom where locals still discuss the weather at length. Castle Douglas, fifteen minutes inland, has the supermarkets and practical bits if you need them.
