Little Common

Little Common is a small woodland patch just outside Chard, the kind of place you'd stumble upon while exploring the quieter corners of Somerset rather than deliberately seek out. It's genuinely modest - a few acres of mixed forest with footpaths threading through, decent for a short woodland walk if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Dimpsey or Holly Bush.

The trees here are pleasant enough, offering proper shade on a warm day and the usual woodland sounds - birds, the occasional rustle of something in the undergrowth. It's not dramatic or particularly rare, just solid Somerset countryside. The paths are manageable, though muddy after rain, and the whole thing can be done in under an hour without breaking a sweat.

Who should bother? Walkers passing through the area, really. Families with young kids might get bored after a brisk circuit, and if you're after proper forestry with facilities or viewpoints, you'd be better off heading towards the larger parks. It works as a quick leg-stretcher between attractions or a gentle morning wander before heading into Chard itself.

Free to access and no specific opening hours that we're aware of - just turn up. On a wider holiday combining the Somerset Levels caravan sites, it's useful to know it exists, but don't rearrange your itinerary to make it happen. Fair for what it is, but not the reason to book a week in the area.
