Little Up Somborne Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Little Up Somborne Wood sits just outside Stockbridge and delivers exactly what you'd want from a Hampshire forest on a damp Tuesday afternoon. The paths wind through beech and oak, quiet enough that you'll actually hear birds instead of other people's Spotify playlists.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow ramble rather than a quick tick-off. There's nothing dramatic - no waterfall, no viewpoint, no Instagram moment - but that's rather the point. The canopy filters the light in that particular way autumn woods do, and if you time it right with the seasons, the floor turns copper and gold. Perhaps two hours maximum to loop it properly, depending on your pace and how often you stop to look at things.

Families with young kids might find it a bit ordinary on its own - they'll want more incentive to stay engaged than just "walking through trees". But if you're staying at Stockbridge View or The Meadow Glamping nearby and fancy getting out of the caravan for some air and greenery without driving anywhere, it does the job. Worth combining with a proper walk elsewhere in the Test Valley rather than making a special trip.

No official visitor facilities that I could find, so bring what you need. Stockbridge itself has tea and cake options if you want to make an afternoon of it.
