Llangennech Recreation Ground

The Llangennech Recreation Ground is a working nature reserve just outside Llanelli that doesn't announce itself with fanfare - you'll find marshland, open grassland, and genuine conservation work happening on the ground. It's the sort of place where you might spot lapwings, redshanks, or if you're lucky, a marsh harrier working the reed beds. The walking is straightforward rather than dramatic, following paths around the wetland areas. There's no visitor centre or café, so come prepared.

This one's for birdwatchers and walkers who genuinely want to see wildlife, not just pass through somewhere photogenic. Families with binoculars and patient kids will get more from it than those after an afternoon's entertainment. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're serious about the birds. Spring and autumn migrations bring the best action; summer can feel a bit quiet. The ground itself is free to access - just turn up and walk.
