Lliwedd Bach

Lliwedd Bach is a proper little peak that doesn't get the crowds of its fancier neighbours in Snowdonia. It's located near Caernarfon, rising up from the Gwynant Valley with views across the Snowdon range that'll stop you mid-stride.

The walk itself is straightforward enough - nothing technical, just moorland path and some scrambling near the summit. You're looking at a couple of hours' round trip from the valley floor, depending on your pace and how many times you pause for the views. It's the sort of hill that rewards you without demanding much in return.

This works best for walkers who want something achievable without spending half the day on it. Kids will manage it fine if they've got decent legs, and it's an excellent warm-up if you're building towards Snowdon itself. History types might appreciate the old slate workings you'll spot on the way up.

If you're camping at Llyn Gwynant Campsite just 1.5 miles away, it's practically on your doorstep. Beddgelert Campsite, four miles south, makes for a natural base too. The Llanberis options further afield give you more facilities if that matters.

Go early if you can - the valley fills with hikers come mid-morning, and there's nowhere much to park. The light's best in the morning anyway, making the slate grey of the summit proper dramatic against the sky.
