Loch Bhac

You'll find Loch Bhac tucked away in the hills above Pitlochry - a proper small loch that doesn't attract the crowds you'd get at Loch Tummel just down the road. The walk to reach it takes you through decent woodland, and once you're there, it's the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. The water sits quiet and dark against the surrounding forest, which is lovely if you're after a bit of solitude rather than a photo opportunity.

Walkers get the most from this one, honestly. It's not a massive detour if you're staying at River Tilt Park or Blair Castle Caravan Park - both a short drive away - but you'll need reasonable legs for the approach. The loch itself doesn't have facilities or a developed shore path, so it's more about the walk than lingering for hours. Half a day would be plenty.

The real appeal is how quiet it stays. You won't find the manicured picnic spots or visitor infrastructure of its more famous neighbours, which means fewer people and a sharper sense of the Perthshire landscape. If your caravan holiday includes time at Parkdean Resorts Tummel Valley Holiday Park or Faskally Woods, this makes a good morning outing to mix things up. Go on a clear day though - on grey ones the woods can feel a bit oppressive, and the views are minimal anyway. Not essential if you've got limited time, but solid value if you like walking and want to escape the honeypot lochs.
