Loch Geoidh

Loch Geoidh sits tucked away in Argyll like the kind of place locals don't especially want strangers finding out about. It's a small freshwater loch near Taynuilt, ringed by proper Highland scenery - the sort of spot where you can actually hear yourself think. The water's dark and still most days, reflecting the surrounding hills in a way that makes phone cameras struggle to capture it properly.

What you're here for is the walk. There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which is rather refreshing. The drive from Taynuilt takes about fifteen minutes depending on which approach you take, and parking is roadside rather than formal. Allow a couple of hours to wander about without rushing. The walk itself is manageable, though the terrain can be boggy after rain - proper hiking boots aren't optional.

Historically minded visitors might appreciate the wider Argyll landscape, though Loch Geoidh itself isn't particularly famous. Families with young children might find it a bit too low-key, but if you've got teenagers or adults after genuine wilderness without the tourist infrastructure, this works perfectly. Best visited in decent weather when the midges aren't appalling - late spring or early autumn are your best bets.
