Lodge Covert

You'll find Lodge Covert tucked into the wooded landscape near Bridgnorth, a proper bit of ancient forest that feels worlds away from the market town just down the road. It's the sort of place where you can wander between mature trees and actually hear yourself think - no crowds, no gift shop, just woodland being woodland.

The forest itself is fairly compact, so don't expect hours of trekking. An hour or so is realistic if you're moving at a leisurely pace and stopping to look at things. The undergrowth is thick in places, the canopy dense enough that it's genuinely cool even on warm days. There's something honest about it - no manicured trails or interpretive boards, just trees and paths.

Walkers will find it worth the visit, particularly those who prefer their woodland without the theme park treatment. It's less obvious than some of the bigger Shropshire forests, which means you'll likely have it mostly to yourself. Families with young kids might manage an hour before someone gets restless; older children who actually enjoy being in woods will get more from it.

The location works well if you're staying at Wheathill Touring Park - it's barely over a mile away, so a morning visit slots in easily. Woodland Escapes is further out at nearly six miles, though still manageable. Both parks make good bases for exploring this part of Shropshire's quieter side.
