Longhorsley Common

The common sits just outside Morpeth, a proper slice of Northumberland woodland that doesn't demand much planning but rewards a wander. This works best if you're already staying nearby at one of the holiday parks - Forget Me Not is barely a mile away, or Bockenfield if you prefer something slightly further out. It's the sort of spot you'd combine with a morning in Morpeth itself rather than a destination in its own right. The value is in it being uncomplicated and free, perfect for burning off energy between other activities. Don't expect dramatic vistas or rare wildlife - you're there for a decent walk through proper Northumberland country, and on that front it delivers.
