Longshaw Estate

Heather moorland stretches endlessly across this National Trust estate, punctuated by ancient woodland and dramatic gritstone outcrops that'll have you reaching for your camera. The estate covers over 1,600 acres of proper Peak District landscape, with walking trails that range from gentle strolls around the visitor centre to more challenging hikes across Burbage Moor.

Families love the shorter woodland walks - there's something magical about the old beech and oak trees that keeps children engaged for a good hour or two. Serious walkers, though, come for the moorland paths that connect to longer routes across the Dark Peak. The views from the higher ground are well worth the climb, especially on clear days when you can see for miles.
