Lowe Hill

Standing at 384 metres, this modest Staffordshire peak offers surprisingly expansive views across the southern Peak District without the crowds that swarm the higher fells. The walk up from Leek takes about 45 minutes through pleasant farmland and moorland paths, though the route can get boggy after heavy rain.

From the summit, you'll see across to the Roaches and down into the Churnet Valley - it's a proper panoramic sweep that rewards the relatively gentle climb. Families with older children will manage this one easily, though toddlers might struggle with the final rocky section near the top.

What makes Lowe Hill particularly appealing is its accessibility from several holiday parks around Leek. Glencote Caravan Park and Leek Camping and Caravanning Club Site are both within striking distance, making this an ideal morning expedition before the afternoon heat kicks in. The hill works well as part of a longer walk linking to nearby peaks, or simply as a standalone outing for those wanting views without the full Peak District commitment.

Dog walkers love it here - plenty of space for four-legged friends to roam, though do watch for grazing sheep on the lower slopes. Early morning visits are best for clearer views and fewer people sharing your moment at the top.
