March Strips

The Strips near Clackmannan are a proper walk through mixed woodland - nothing fancy, just good honest trees and the kind of forest floor that crunches under your boots. It's the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss, which is exactly why it's worth the detour if you're based at Fossoway Cabins or Meadow View Glamping nearby.

You're walking through broadleaf woodland here, the kind that changes with the seasons. Spring brings bluebells and bird noise; autumn turns everything bronze and gold. The paths are reasonably well-trodden, though you'll want decent footwear after rain - it gets boggy in patches. Most people spend an hour to ninety minutes wandering through, depending on how lost you want to get.

This isn't a destination for the "tick the box" brigade. There's no visitor centre, no interpretation boards, no café. What you get is quiet, birdsong, and the chance to actually think. Families with young kids might find it a bit samey after half an hour, but anyone after a proper forest walk - especially hikers wanting to string together a few hours outdoors - will find it genuinely restorative.

Free to access, no facilities that I could find. Best visited in dry weather when the paths aren't a bog. If you're staying at either of the nearby holiday parks, it's worth having a morning poke around before heading off to bigger attractions elsewhere in Fife. Don't go expecting drama - go for the simple pleasure of being in the woods.
