Martins Ravine Slipway

The ravine itself is the draw here - a proper geological feature carved into the Yorkshire coast, with sandstone cliffs and a slipway that gives the place its name. It's essentially a dramatic gully running down to the beach, and the walk down rewards you with views across Filey Bay and, on clear days, out towards the cliffs beyond. The nature reserve aspect means you'll spot seabirds nesting in the rock face during spring and early summer, which makes it worth timing your visit accordingly if you're keen on that sort of thing.

It's a straightforward coastal walk rather than a full day's outing. Most people spend 45 minutes to an hour here, wandering the ravine, pottering about on the beach below, maybe grabbing a few photos. The walk down isn't too strenuous but can be muddy after rain, so decent shoes matter. Families with young kids will manage it fine, though very small children might find the uneven ground a bit of a faff.

The real appeal is that it feels genuinely off the beaten track compared to busier stretches of the Yorkshire coast. You're not shoulder-to-shoulder with day-trippers. It works brilliantly as part of a coastal walk combining it with nearby spots, and if you're based at one of the holiday parks within a couple of miles - Centenary Way or Primrose Valley are closest - it's an easy morning stroll. Free to access, no facilities on site, and best visited when the weather's cooperating.
