Mi-Frame Gallery

Contemporary art in rural Herefordshire isn't what you'd expect, but Mi-Frame Gallery pulls it off without the pretension. This independent space near Bromyard showcases work from emerging and established artists - think paintings, sculptures, installations and mixed media pieces that actually have something to say rather than existing just to look expensive on a white wall.

It's the sort of place that works best if you're genuinely interested in art rather than ticking off a day trip. You won't spend hours here, maybe forty minutes to an hour if you're thorough, but it's worth the detour if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Out To Grass Camping is only 2.6 miles away, or Brook House Woods if you want something a bit quieter. The Millpond at 4.5 miles makes a decent base too.

What makes it worth stopping for is the way it engages with the landscape and rural context rather than pretending it exists in some London gallery bubble. The staff actually talk to visitors rather than ignoring you until you're about to leave. Opening times and admission aren't widely advertised online, so ring ahead before you go - you don't want a wasted journey out to Bromyard.

Families with older kids who can cope with standing around reading information panels will get something from it. Younger children might find it slow going. Art lovers camping in the area should absolutely include it. It's not groundbreaking, but it's genuine.
