Moel Gydia

The walk up Moel Gydia rewards you with proper panoramic views across the Conwy Valley - nothing too strenuous, just a straightforward trudge that takes about an hour each way from Betws-y-Coed. On a clear day you can see right across to the Snowdonia peaks, which makes the effort feel worthwhile. The summit itself is bare and windy, so bring a jacket even if it looks mild down in the village.

This is a solid choice for walkers who want something less crowded than the major Snowdonia routes. Families with decent boots and stamina will manage it fine - the path is clear enough, though it gets a bit muddy after rain. History types won't find much up here, but the views tell their own story: you're looking at centuries of quarrying and farming across the valley floor.

Betws-y-Coed sits right at the gateway to Snowdonia, so if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Snowdonia Glamping Holidays and Porth Eryri are both excellent and only four or five miles away - you could easily slot this in as a half-day walk before or after exploring the bigger peaks. Maenan Abbey Caravan Park over at six miles gives you similar access. Go early to bag a parking spot in the village, especially at weekends. Allow three hours total including a break at the top, and time it so you're coming down before dusk.
