Molteno Hall

The drive into Pitlochry reveals Molteno Hall quite suddenly - a Victorian mansion that commands the hillside with the sort of presence that makes you immediately curious about who built it and why. It's a private residence now, so you won't be wandering through the rooms, but the exterior and grounds are worth a proper look if you're exploring the Perthshire area.

The hall itself dates back to the 19th century and represents that particular brand of Scottish Victorian architecture - solid, confident, with the kind of stonework that doesn't apologise for itself.
