Moneypenny's Wood

A proper woodland walk through Sussex where the trees do most of the talking. Moneypenny's Wood is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for - dense forest with decent paths that meander through beech and oak, the light filtering through in that particular way that makes you forget you're only a few miles from Tenterden.

Walkers will find this genuinely rewarding, especially if you're after something beyond a quick stroll. The canopy is thick enough to feel properly secluded, and there's enough ground variation to keep it interesting rather than flat and dull. Kids tend to do well here too - there's space to explore without too much risk, and the woodland floor has that natural appeal of fallen logs and streams to investigate.

No visitor facilities to speak of, which is either a feature or a bug depending on your mood. It's free to roam, and you can easily spend ninety minutes to two hours here without rushing. Winter walks are particularly good when the canopy thins out and you get better sight lines through the trees.
