Montalt Hill

The walk up Montalt Hill takes roughly forty minutes from Perth, which is handy if you're staying at one of the local parks like Maycroft Retreat or Greenhill Farm Glamping. It's not a mountain - more of a proper hill with views across Perthshire that justify the effort without demanding fell-walking boots and a packed lunch.

You get good sightlines across the Tay valley on a clear day, which admittedly isn't guaranteed in this part of Scotland. History types might poke around the old earthworks and fortifications near the top - there's Romano-British stuff up there if you know what you're looking at. The real draw is the walk itself rather than anything dramatic at the top.

Go on a weekday morning if you can. Weekends bring Perth day-trippers, and the narrow path gets a bit congested. Allow an hour and a half return if you're taking your time.
