Morfa Bychan

Morfa Bychan is a sprawling area of sand dunes and salt marsh just outside Porthmadog, where the land seems to shift between water and solid ground depending on the tide. It's a proper working landscape rather than a manicured attraction - you'll see evidence of old industrial activity mixed in with the natural habitat, which makes it feel honest and unpolished compared to prettier coastal spots nearby.

Walkers will find genuine appeal here. The terrain changes constantly: boardwalks cut through boggy sections, paths wind between dune systems, and there are decent views across to Snowdonia on clear days. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend two hours poking about without feeling rushed, though an hour is enough if you're just after a quick leg-stretch between other activities.

This works particularly well for families staying at any of the caravan parks clustered within a mile - Garreg Goch, Haven Greenacres, or Tyddyn Llwyn are all a stone's throw away. Kids will enjoy the freedom to explore without worrying about traffic, and the varied terrain keeps things interesting. History enthusiasts might appreciate the remnants of old quarrying and industrial heritage woven into the landscape.
