Mynydd Bach

The walk up Mynydd Bach takes about forty minutes if you're reasonably fit, and the payoff is proper views across Cardigan Bay. It's not a dramatic peak - more a rounded hill that rises behind Aberystwyth - but on a clear day you can see right down the coast towards New Quay. The summit itself is bare moorland, windswept and honest. No facilities, no café, no nonsense.

You'll want to come here if you enjoy hill walking without the scrambling and altitude sickness. Families with older children get a real kick out of it because the route is straightforward enough that even reluctant walkers won't complain for the whole thing. Younger kids might struggle with the climb, but nothing technical.

Go early morning to dodge the wind that can pick up badly by afternoon. The moorland can be boggy after rain, so proper footwear matters. Allow two and a half hours return if you're bringing the family and stopping for snacks at the top.

If you're based at Brynllwyd Glamping or Dôl Swynol Glamping - both within four miles - this works well as a morning activity before heading into Aberystwyth for lunch. Woodlands Caravan Park is slightly further out but still convenient. It's the sort of walk that clears your head without eating your whole day, which makes it ideal if you're also planning seaside time or exploring other Ceredigion spots.
