Mynydd Bodrochwyn

The walk up Mynydd Bodrochwyn rewards you with views across the Conwy Valley that justify the effort. It's not a tall peak - 427 metres - but don't mistake that for easy. The path gets steep and boggy in places, especially after rain, so proper boots matter here.

You're looking at a solid hour's climb from the bottom, maybe ninety minutes if you're taking it steady. The summit itself is a bit anticlimactic - just a cairn and moorland - but turn around and you've got the Clwydian range stretching south and the coast visible to the north on a clear day. The whole Conwy area opens up beneath you.

It's the kind of walk that appeals to experienced walkers rather than casual strollers. If you've got teenagers who can handle uneven ground and don't need a café halfway up, they'll manage it fine. Young children would find it tedious. The real draw is that sense of earning the view rather than just turning up to snap a photo.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks near Abergele - Plas Farm is closest at under three miles - this makes a proper morning's outing. Free to walk, obviously. Go early or midweek if you want any peace; weekends can get busy with locals who know the shortcut routes. The weather here changes fast, so don't ignore the forecast.
