Mynydd Egryn

Mynydd Egryn sits just inland from Barmouth, a proper hill walk rather than a casual stroll. The summit's only 612 metres high, but the climb from the valley floor feels steeper than the numbers suggest - you'll earn the views across Cardigan Bay and inland toward Snowdonia. On a clear day it's genuinely excellent. On a misty one, less so.

The walk itself takes about ninety minutes up and back depending on your fitness. Most people tackle it from the village of Llangelynnin on the western approach, where there's roadside parking and a rough track that becomes a path through moorland and bracken. The terrain's boggy in places, especially after rain, so proper boots matter. It's the kind of hill that keeps you moving but doesn't demand scrambling or technical stuff - families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble at the gradient.

Worth doing? Yes, if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Hendre Mynach or Lyons Sunnysands and want a proper walk without driving somewhere new. It's a useful day out when you want fresh air and actual effort, not just a gentle amble. The summit's a bit bleak and windy rather than dramatic, but the climb focuses the mind and the payoff's legitimate. Skip it if you're after something easier - there are plenty of gentler coastal options around Barmouth. But if you fancy stretching your legs properly, this does the job.
