Mynydd Llanfihangel-rhos-y-corn

The walk up Mynydd Llanfihangel-rhos-y-corn isn't flashy. No visitor centre, no café, no crowds flogging postcards. What you get instead is a proper Carmarthenshire hill that rewards the effort with views sprawling across the Black Mountains to the north and down towards the Towy Valley. The summit sits at 1,450 feet, which means it's steep enough to make you work for it but not so brutal that you'll regret leaving the car.

This is one for walkers and anyone after a bit of peace. The route winds through moorland and rough grazing, so boots aren't optional. I'd allow two to three hours for a solid loop, depending on which approach you take from the lanes around the villages nearby. The terrain changes your pace constantly - some sections fly, others require real concentration underfoot.

Historically-minded types should know the name alone tells you this belonged to the medieval parish, though the landscape itself is what speaks loudest. The views on a clear day are honestly excellent, and on a grey one you'll have the moorland entirely to yourself, which many would argue is better.
