You'll wander through rooms crammed with his personal effects, first editions, and enough India memorabilia to hint at why he wrote what he did. The gardens are genuinely worth the time - nothing manicured or showy, just the kind of grounds you'd actually want to sit in with a book. There's a working mill down by the stream if you fancy a proper poke around the outbuildings.

It's best for literature enthusiasts or anyone who likes the bones of how a serious writer actually lived. Families with younger kids might find it a bit thin on activities after forty minutes, unless they're into rambling around gardens. Bring a packed lunch - the tea room situation varies by season.
