Spray Hill

The walk up Spray Hill, near Wadhurst, isn't a lung-busting scramble - it's a proper ramble across the Sussex Weald with views that stretch across three counties on a clear day. You're looking at rolling countryside rather than dramatic peaks, which is exactly what this part of Kent does best. The summit sits around 800 feet, and the approach is gentle enough that families with older kids won't struggle, though the paths can get muddy after rain.

What makes it worth the trip is the walk itself more than a dramatic destination. You get decent woodland sections, open fields, and that sense of being somewhere genuinely rural without needing fell boots or rock gear. On the way back down towards Wadhurst, the light hits the fields in ways that make you understand why people chose to camp and glamour up in this corner of the world.

If you're based at Hopgarden Glamping just under two miles away, or one of the other parks dotted nearby - Tanner Farm Park and Colts Hill Glamping are within striking distance - this is a natural half-day circuit. Allow a couple of hours round trip without rushing. Go in autumn when the trees turn and the air's clearer. Summer brings too many midges and the haze makes the distance views pointless.

It's not Instagram-famous, which is precisely why you should go. Walkers will get the most from it; it's the kind of gentle peak that reminds you the South East has proper countryside if you know where to look.
