National Trust - Croome

The grounds at Croome sprawl across 700 acres of parkland that Robert Adam and Lancelot 'Capability' Brown shaped in the 1760s, and walking through them now feels like stepping into an 18th-century landscape painting. You get the lake, the temple, the carefully framed views across to the Malvern Hills - all that Georgian gentlemen's estate business done properly. The house itself sits at the heart of it, a cream-coloured baroque pile that's worth the walk up from the entrance.

Historically minded visitors will spend a good two hours here easily, though families with younger kids might find the grounds more appealing than getting tangled up in house tours. The perimeter walk is genuinely lovely, and the National Trust does keep things accessible without overselling it. You can do the essential circuit in 90 minutes if you're pressed, or potter about for half the day if the weather's decent.

Based near Malvern, it slots in well with a caravan park break in the area - Boye Meadow and Riverside are both within a few miles, making it an easy morning or afternoon visit. Bring proper shoes though; the paths can get boggy even days after rain. Entry's handled by the National Trust (membership or day pass), and there's decent parking. The cafe does a reasonable cup of tea, which matters when you've been tramping about in the Worcestershire drizzle.
